| Special Guest Speaker Bob Hansen of Breiss Malt & Ingredients Company Bob was infected with the brewing virus 20 years ago when he brewed his first batch of homebrew with his twin brother Richard. Struck with a rather severe case, he was forced to find a way to spend most of his waking hours thinking about, talking about and making beer. Fortunately he was able to make brewing his occupation in 1990 when he got his first job as a brewer at Water Street Brewery in Milwaukee http://www.waterstreetbrewery.com/ Over the last 18 years his unique sets of experiences have made him an expert on the subject of brewing with malt extract. Bob started by producing GABF award winning beers from extract at a 10 Brl brewpub. Later these beers had to be matched with all grain formulations brewed at the same time at the companies 15 and 150 barrel brew houses. As a brewing consultant he commissioned brew houses and formulated beers for several extract and all grain breweries. He then joined Briess Malt and Ingredients, where he commissioned their 500BRl brew house used for the production of extract. He moved from production to Research and Development mainly so that he could spend more time in the pilot brewery. In the pilot malt extract plant he created unique extracts for specialty purposes for home brewers as well as for global brewing companies. In his current role as Manager of Technical Services Bob is responsible for new product development, quality control and providing technical assistance to Briess customers. A published author of several articles on malt ingredients and malt extract and Bob has given talks or presented papers on the use of extracts in brewing at the AHA, AACC, IFT, MBAA and Craft Brewers national conventions.
